This itinerary was born after repeated explorations of Patagonia, dedicated exclusively to wildlife. The heart of the journey will be the Valdés Peninsula, where we will have a very high probability of witnessing the spectacular behavior of orcas as they approach the shore to prey on young sea lions. A truly powerful experience, as well as a unique photographic opportunity.
The fauna of the Valdés Peninsula
Along the peninsula’s endless dirt roads, we’ll encounter numerous wildlife species: guanacos, birds of prey, foxes, armadillos, rheas, and tarantulas. With a bit of luck, we might even spot a puma. Further south, along the coast, we’ll photograph elephant seal colonies directly from the beach, just a few meters away, seeking out the characteristic low-angle views. We’ll also have the opportunity to encounter Commerson’s dolphins and the immense penguin colonies, with their chicks already grown.
Tierra del Fuego and the Beagle Channel
Once we reach Tierra del Fuego, we’ll sail along the Beagle Channel to photograph the colonies of sea lions nesting on the rocks, king cormorants, red-headed vultures, and numerous other marine species. A wild and spectacular environment, sailing will allow you to observe the wildlife from a unique perspective.
El Calafate and the Perito Moreno Glacier
In the El Calafate area, we’ll search for numerous Patagonian birds, including the lora, cauquén, and kestrel. Finally, while sailing near the Perito Moreno Glacier, we’ll have the chance, if we’re lucky, to spot the majestic Andean condor. This itinerary is designed to experience and photograph Patagonia through its most spectacular wildlife.

Day 1
The Journey
Departure from Italy from various international airports.
Intercontinental flight and overnight stay on board.
Arrival in Buenos Aires at Ministro Pistarini International Airport.
Hotel transfer and afternoon activity depending on your hotel arrival time.

Day 2
Straight down to Patagonia
Domestic flight to Trelew.
Our journey officially begins with a day dedicated to the enormous colonies of Magellanic penguins, guanacos, sea lions, and elephant seals. We’ll have plenty of time for slow, thoughtful photography sessions, seeking out original compositions among thousands of nests. In the afternoon (guided by our knowledge of the previously visited locations), we’ll continue with photographic explorations along the coast in search of local wildlife, taking advantage of the best lighting conditions and current sightings.
Overnight stay in Playa Union.
Day 3
Safari Blu and Tonina Overa
A day dedicated to the dynamism of the ocean.
We’ll embark at Playa Union for a nautical safari aimed at spotting Commerson’s Dolphin (Tonina Overa), famous for its black and white color. The day will then be organized based on the best safari times, integrating the sea outing with other “secret” photo opportunities, ensuring an intense and unexpected experience.

Days 4 ➡ 8
Peninsula Valdés: The Theater of Life
Transfer to Peninsula Valdés (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
We enter the sanctuary of Southern Right Whales, large birds of prey, and an incredible variety of terrestrial fauna.
The landscape is characterized by typical Patagonian steppe with its dirt roads, while huge herds of guanacos watch us.
We will stay in Puerto Piramides, the beating heart of the reserve, to move easily between bays and cliffs.
It will be 5 days of pure admiration of one of nature’s greatest spectacles: orcas hunting on the shore.
Day 9
Flight to Ushuaia: The Edge of the World
We leave the central coast and fly south to Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego. Here, the Andes collapse into the ocean.
We will have the first contact with the southernmost city in the world, a place full of myth and unique photographic opportunities, suspended between snow-capped peaks and glacial waters.

Day 10
The Beagle Channel and the Secrets of Isla Martillo
Two days dedicated to navigating the Beagle Channel and exploring the land.
We’ll visit lighthouses and sea lion colonies, but the real highlight will be Isla Martillo: a sanctuary where, in addition to Magellanic penguins, we’ll be able to document the Gentoo Penguin and, with the right amount of luck, the imposing King Penguin.
We will be supported by a local company that knows all the best areas well to guarantee us the best shot.

Days 11-12
El Calafate – Perito Moreno Glacier
After a short internal flight we will reach El Calafate and after settling into the hotel we will immediately go to visit a small lagoon on the edge of the majestic “Lago Argentino”.
The lagoon is famous for birdwatching and for the many animal species that live there.
Night in El Calafate.
The next day it is the turn of the majestic and iconic Perito Moreno.
We will navigate the glacier’s waters and then finish the excursion on trails from which you can admire the glacier from above.

Return to Buenos Aires
Domestic flight from El Calafate to Buenos Aires.

Who is it aimed at?
The trip is aimed at photographers of all levels.
From the novice photographer eager to learn and share their passion, to the experienced professional who perhaps doesn’t have a deep knowledge of the destination and wants to rely on someone who can guarantee a unique experience and bring home unique images.
Equipment
The recommended lenses are:

70-200mm to ensure brightness in poor lighting conditions and for subjects that are not far away.

from 300mm up to 800mm for distant subjects, environmental subjects and for close-up and detailed portraits.

A wide-angle lens for landscapes and for documenting activities: the jeep in the jungle, crops, local markets, etc.

Climate, documents and useful advice
Patagonia’s climate is cold, windy, and highly variable, characterized by notable differences between the coast, the Andes, and the inland steppe, as well as by the inversion of the seasons compared to the Northern Hemisphere.
Main features
- The wind: A constant throughout the territory, often very strong especially during the summer season.
- Western slope (Andes and Pacific): Cold and very humid climate, with abundant rainfall and dense forests.
- Eastern Steppe (Atlantic/Interior): Arid, cool, semi-desert climate with little rainfall.
- Tierra del Fuego (South): Cold oceanic climate, with average temperatures that rarely exceed 15°C even in summer and frequent sudden changes (sudden rain or snow).
Temperatures and seasons

Southern Summer (December – March): This is the best time to visit. Average daytime temperatures range between 15°C and 20/22°C, with very long days (up to 16-17 hours of daylight).

Southern Winter (June – August): Cold and harsh period, with average temperatures between -2°C and 5°C, heavy snowfall and closure of many trails or tourist facilities.
Entry requirements
To enter Argentina as an Italian tourist, you need a valid passport, a return ticket, and medical insurance.
No visa is required for stays of up to 90 days.
